Conference fever

I like going to the conferences. Every year I try taking part in one major conference and one or more smaller events devoted to the agile movement. Reading the books, articles and web-sites like this one is important, but I find that getting together on the conferences and similar types of gatherings is an own indispensable experience. If you happen to be at least moderately social, couple of conference days, lunches and evening parties help you get to know so many people and teams that you would not be able to meet in a year otherwise.

Tomorrow I am going to Scan-Agile (short for Scandinavian Agile Conference) that is the first large conference in the Scandinavian area (except for XP2006 that was also held in Finland, but was not a regular Nordic gathering). I am going to run a couple of open space sessions: on the outsourcing-related tips'n'tricks and on extreme experiences of software development. If some of you are are coming to this event, we can meet on these sessions or elsewhere on the conference. If you are interested, put a comment here and Ill try looking for your name on the badges - feel free to say "hi" to me if you recognize me. Typically I look similar to the guy on this video.

What is your attitude towards the conferences? Is it an academic tourism or a useful activity for you?

conferences are invaluable...

I have attended Agile 2007 and 2008 and found them to be invaluable for several reasons. I'm surrounded by like-minded people that challenge many ideas and pursue many debates. I reconnect with peers and mentors of the past. And it typically re-energizes me for quite a few weeks by filling my head with many new tools and ideas!
