OK, maybe it's just me that finds this funny, but a recent survey by Stelligent of CIO's found the following:
- 72% of CIO's said that NO, they did not have a solid understanding of Agile Development Methodologies.
- 72% of CIO's said YES, they are open to adopting agile methods.
Now I don't know about you, but if I don't have a "solid understanding" of something, I'm generally not inclined to be open to adopting it! I think I'd do a bit more research first. Could this be the buzzword effect: "We have to adopt agile...it's the latest and greatest" while in their head they're thinking "What is agile anyway? I keep hearing about it".
These same CIO's went on to add their opinions on the importance for organizations to adopt agile methods:
- 29% said extremely important, 50% said important, and 14% said somewhat important.
Hmmm..."It's very important that we adopt something I don't really understand." Again, maybe it's just me, but I find these results rather funny...or scary depending on your point of view!

Chris, are the survey details available somewhere online? I'd like to have a closer look at what and how they measured.

Thanks, Chris. Ok, from the stelligent web site it looks like the real CIOs were answering, but only 20 of them and only those who found it important to come to some software related event.
