Web 2.0 is a very good field for agile projects

Just because the nowadays web realities force companies to be agile even if they wouldn't like to do it. In the web 2.0 world sometimes, if not always you just have to be able to release every couple of months or even weeks.

Perhaps it's really the "application state" problem

Client applications mantain app client state with the client. Web 1.0 put the state at the server, a place that was intended for statelessness. Using a good technology makes it easier to do everything you do with it including satisfying your customer with a more responsive UI.
